Access to Universal, Ability Building and Quality Education

FXB India Suraksha believes in the universal and fundamental ‘Right to Education’. A key focus of all FXBIS programmes is to ensure access to quality primary and secondary level education for every child within its intervention geography. The envisioned impact of the FXBIS Education Strategy is educated, confident, productive and socially responsible children and youth. To reach this goal, FXBIS applies a multi-folded approach.

  • Through its awareness and mobilization campaigns FXBIS generates recognition for the necessity and importance of education within the community in general and among parents in particular. The objective is to convince parents about the added value of allowing their children, especially girls, to attend and complete schooling.
  • FXBIS also makes an effort to identify the most vulnerable and marginalized families within its intervention geography. Being aware of their economic hardships, FXBIS supports these families by linking them with relevant government education schemes and assisting them with the application process. Some special cases, particularly families affected by HIV/Aids, are incorporated into FXBIS’ own sponsored scholarship programme.
  • Another angle of the FXBIS Education Strategy is the promotion of competence-based teaching methods and improved school infrastructure such as access to safe drinking water, separate toilets for boys and girls, a safe playground, well equipped class rooms and libraries, and availability of audio-visual teaching material. The objective is to ensure quality education and a child- and especially girl-friendly school environment.
  • Additionally, FXBIS runs several Suraksha Education Centres at different locations across India which provide supplementary support to children through non-formal education and tuition classes. FXBIS Computer Literacy Centres equip children and youth with access to and knowledge about modern technology. The objective is to boost the children’s performance and prepare them for the requirements of today’s working environment.
  • Finally, FXBIS recognizes that learning is a constant process throughout life and that the term ‘education’ comprises more than just formal education. Through ‘Women Adult Literacy Classes’ FXBIS aims to empower women and increase their self-esteem and knowledge base. Non-formal education programmes such as ‘Life Skill Workshops’ and vocational training courses expand the skill sets of adolescents and women allowing them to be well equipped, self-confident and productive members of their communities.
  • A vital component of the FXBIS Education Strategy is evidence-based research on education and advocacy with stakeholders. The objective is to ameliorate governance and policy issues in the realm of education.
