AN ANTI CHILD TRAFFICKING PROJECT MUKTI : Launch and Stakeholder Consultation in Manipur
In sync with FXB India Suraksha's (FXBIS) movement to arrest Human Trafficking and in particular the nefarious trade in Women and Girls, Project Mukti will be launched in Manipur on Sunday 24th January, 2016. Ms. Silvana Paternostro, Executive Director, FXB USA and Ms. Mamta Borgoyary, CEO, FXB India Suraksha will be inaugurating Project Mukti and hold a consultative meeting with the stakeholders at the FXBIS intervention centre in Ukhrul, Manipur.
Launched in collaboration with Ecpat Luxembourg (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg), the overall objective is to help reduce incidences of trafficking of women and girls for commercial sexual exploitation in India. FXBIS’ three- year intervention programme is based in three of the most trafficking-prone source states of India – Assam, Manipur and West Bengal – and Goa.
Conflict ridden Manipur has been vulrenable to trafficking and a source and a strategic transit point for the criminal networks operating in the region. FXB India Suraksha’s intervention in Manipur will focus its activities in two districts - Imphal and Ukhrul. To address this insidious and pervasive social morass FXBIS will be collaborating with the local authorities and religious bodies like our host, Tangkhul Theological Association, Hamreikhong, Ukhrul. The hilly district of Ukruhl with its mainly tribal and impoverished population has emerged as an easy target for an expanding network of child traffickers from across the country.
The District Magistrate of Ukhrul will also be addressing the stakeholders at the meeting followed by a presentation on FXB India Suraksha's initial inferences and project aspirations and deliverables. As a part of FXBIS’ advocacy for upholding the rights of the vulnerable, Ms. Paternostro and Ms. Borgoyary will also be addressing the local media.
