HON'BLE VICE PRESIDENT OF INDIA AND NOBLE LAUREATE
PROF. AMARTYA SEN RELEASED A BOOK –
HOPES ALIVE: SURVIVING AIDS AND DESPAIR

The book is published by FXB India Suraksha. The book is about the personal stories of women and children who are fighting the virus and hoping for a life free of stigma and discrimination. The book chronicles people who in face of adversity have shown courage, determination and strength.

This book has stories of such children and care givers of these children who have been left behind by AIDS. Here is a peek into the book.....

"At FXB India Suraksha's centre is Rani, a slim 23-year-old woman living with HIV. She is an artist and works as a peer educator teaching the other women living with HIV how to add a dash of colour to a plain sari. Rani is vivacious and the students are fast learners. But in a quiet moment, she speaks about the nagging of her "family" discovering her HIV positive status. Rani is afraid that her brother will not allow her mother to remain in contact with her if he knew of her medical condition. Rani's husband, A PLWHA, is undergoing treatment for tuberculosis....."

Stories like Rani's are the theme of this book. The book has been written by Patralekha Chatterjee and edited by Sharmila Abraham over the last one year.

FXB India Suraksha, whose over-arching belief is that human rights are inextricably linked, through this book asks some pertinent questions, raises a voice to speak for the voiceless and debates many human issues linked to the dual burden of AIDS and poverty.
