Creating Demand for Low-cost Toilets

In India, less than 40% of the population has access to improved sanitation. The FXBIS W.A.S.H. (Water & Sanitation, Hygiene) project improves the capacities of community institutions to access appropriate technology and help them develop safe and sustainable systems within the state of Jharkhand.

FXBIS is promoting a low-cost sanitation model, encouraging good practices of hygiene and improved access to clean water supplies. Similar programmes are being run in Visakhapatnam and Vijaywada districts of Andhra Pradesh and in rural Puducherry. Low-cost toilets have been linked to the Swachch Bharat Mission, enabling the beneficiaries to access the benefits of the government scheme. FXBIS attempts to initiate convergence with government in all its core domains wherever possible.
